Product specs

Very rare authentic north sea commercial fishing net floats from 1890-1930.  Originating from North Atlantic or British coastal fisheries, they are made from hand carved burr hardwood most likely elm or oak. They have retained their original natural-fibre rope strops, these floats were used on heavy offshore drift or seine nets. Larger examples would have served as end or marker floats, with smaller examples spaced along the headrope of the net to maintain buoyancy.

Each float is of substantial scale and weight, with deep natural weathering from prolonged marine use. Several retain original iron-lined central apertures and hand-forged strap reinforcements — features associated with large-scale commercial net systems where wet rope ran continuously under load.
