This is an old thermograph that is housed within a metal casing that has unusual surface pattern. Recording thermograph, likely British. A clockwork-driven temperature recorder that continuously logged ambient temperature onto a rotating chart drum, commonly used in meteorological stations, laboratories and industrial monitoring. Housed in a glazed metal case with ventilated panel, it reflects early automatic environmental recording technology prior to electronic data logging. 1930s - 1950s.
